Running my 3rd Marathon

The Game Plan

Goal was to run under 4hr 30mins. But i went in with the mindset that it is not possible. If i could squeeze in a 4hr 45mins would be great. Why is it not possible? All my training runs, i could not maintain the pace of 6m23s per km with the long training run group. But i was thinking, since im starting in PEN C, which is one pen earlier than the pacing group to hit 4hr 30mins, i could start and go as far as i could at 6m20s - 6m40s. And when the pacer finally catch up, hopefully in the late 30kms, i will latch on to them and hold on for as long as i can, hopefully all the way to the finishing line. That was the plan. and if all goes well, 4hr 45mins will be great.

Reflection: I definitely could push harder. i felt really good going towards the finishing line, but of course the legs shag out. almost cramp but i held back alittle so no cramps, no injury.

Looking back, i should have started faster. i think the first 20km if i were to be faster at maybe 6mins pace, would have shaved off 8mins. Also for all the aid stations, i should have treated it more seriously and not slow down or walk while taking my salt tablets or gels.

Met up with a japanese friend after the run, also saw my old-boss running and she ran 4hr 9mins! thats damn insane. i definitely could have pushed harder. somehow i got to learn more about my heart rate and not letting it spike but still maintaining the pace.
